<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network printing system that appropriately updates the printing software of a memory means of a printer used in common with a host device, and to provide a recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: In the network printing system, the host device compares the version of the printing software of a web server, which is connected to the Internet connected to the network and provides printing software on the basis of a mounted software update program, with a printing software version stored in the large capacity storage part of a network printer. When the printing software of the web server is the latest version, the printing software of the web server is downloaded, to update the printing software in the large storage part in the network printer.
