PURPOSE: An apparatus for measuring transmission section loss of a wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) transmission apparatus and a method thereof are provided, which measure loss of a transmission section using an optical supervisory channel of the WDM transmission apparatus. CONSTITUTION: An optical coupling unit(240,290) divides a part of a light from an output part of an optical supervisory channel in a wavelength division multiplexing transmission apparatus in each transmission section connecting a receiver and a transmitter. A photo diode unit(250,300) measures an intensity of the light being output from the above optical coupling unit. An analog to digital converter unit(260,310) converts the intensity of the light detected by the above optical detection unit into digital value. And an optical supervisory channel part(270,320) measures loss of a transmission section between a corresponding transmitter by comparing the intensity of light being output from the analog to digital converter unit with the intensity of transmitted light transmitted from the transmitter, and transmits the intensity of light and loads it on a fixed frame to transmit it to a receiver on the next stage. |
