PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotating drum positioning device which can precisely decide the rotational phase of a rotating drum. SOLUTION: The vertical movement of the rotating drum 1 in one cycle is measured with a static capacitance sensor 10 by means of a PG signal outputted, each time the rotating drum rotates in one cycle, and the rotational phase and movement of the rotating drum 1 are examined. By this, the absolute rotational phase on the rotating drum 1 for each magnetic head can be represented by the state of the movement. Accordingly, the rotating drum 1 will not deform, and the phase data can be obtained, independently of the number of rotations, without additionally providing the rotating drum 1 with specific parts. As a result, the rotating drum positioning device, which can precisely position the rotational phase of the rotating drum 1, can be provided. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
