OPTICAL TRANSMISSION SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MEASURING STABILITY QUALITY OF OPTICAL CHANNEL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus capable of measuring the stability of an optical channel even when the optical channel is not in operation.

SOLUTION: The optical transmission system of this invention is provided with a continuity confirmation circuit 106 for confirming continuity of an input data signal, a test signal generator 105 for generating a test signal, and a changeover device 107 at a transmission side. The changeover device 107 selectively outputs the input data signal when the continuity confirmation circuit 106 detects the input data signal or the test signal when the circuit 106 detects no input data signal from its output terminal. The output of the changeover device 107 is provided with an optical transmitter TX. Then the receiver side of the system is provided with a discrimination circuit that receives an optical signal from a transmission line to detect the test signal and decides a transmission characteristic of the transmission line on the basis of the test signal.
