PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a master carrier for magnetic transfer which allows magnetic transfer with high transfer quality, without the need for increasing adhesion pressure needlessly, by suppressing bad adhesion caused by a lubricant component adhered from a slave medium. SOLUTION: The master carrier 3 for magnetic transfer is provided with a substrate 33, having concavo-convex patterns corresponding to the information to be transferred, and soft magnetic layer 32 formed on the substrate 33, at least on a convex part 33a of the substrate. Minute convex parts 32c are formed at the bottom part of a patterned concave part 33b between the convex parts 33a. Occurrence of poor adhesion, which causes deterioration of transfer quality, can be suppressed by increasing the reserved amount of the lubricant component attached through the adhesion to the slave medium.
