PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact terminal structure for a wire rope with an external damage detection function that can notify external damage before a rope is subjected to fatal damage by holding a detection wire safe from breakage and creating, simultaneously, mechanical attachment or detachment thereof to or from a locking means and electrical connection or disconnection thereof to or from a detecting mean. SOLUTION: A terminal portion of the wire rope with an external damage detection function, in which the detection wire 2 is arranged in an electrically insulated relation around a wire rope body 1 and a coating layer 4 is applied around them, is mounted with a locking fitting 6 with a crimping part fixed on the wire rope body 1 beyond the coating layer 4, so that the detection wire 2 from the end of the coating layer 4 is connected to a back electrical connector 7 through the interior of the wire rope body 1 or locking fitting 6.
