摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium having no conventional disadvantage of prior art or only a small degree of the disadvantage if the medium has the disadvantage, preferably simultaneously an ultrahigh specific resistivity value and a low threshold voltage and especially for a matrix liquid crystal (MLC), a twisted nematic (TN) or a super twisted nematic (STN) display. <P>SOLUTION: This liquid crystal medium comprises at least one kind of compound represented by formula I (wherein, rings A<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>2</SP>and A<SP>3</SP>denote each 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene, piperidine-1,4-diyl-naphthalene-2,6-diyl or the like; ring A<SP>4</SP>denotes 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene, naphthalene-2,6-diyl or the like; Z<SP>1</SP>, Z<SP>2</SP>and Z<SP>3</SP>denote each -COO-, -CF<SB>2</SB>O-, -CH<SB>2</SB>O- or a single bond; a, b and c denote each 0, 1 or 2; and X denotes F, Cl, CN or an &le;8C alkyl group).
