<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the temperature of a gas sensor capable of suppressing the occurrence of overshoots after the actuation of the gas senor as a temperature controlling method for heating the gas sensor to an activation temperature through the use of a heater. <P>SOLUTION: In temperature control processing, an impressing voltage VH to the heater is set at a low voltage by first PID control to be executed in S270 when the temperature of a whole-range air fuel ratio sensor reaches the activation temperature (600°C). By this, it is possible to reduce the calorific value of the ceramic heater 41 and prevent the temperature of the whole-range air fuel ratio sensor from overshooting. In addition, since the impressing voltage VH is gradually increased with the passage of time in the first PID control in the case that the temperature of the whole-range air fuel ratio sensor does not reach a service temperature, it is possible to prevent the calorific value of the ceramic heater 41 from being insufficient and reliably raise its temperature to the service temperature. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
