PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop an operation control method of a new indirect heating-type stirring drying machine capable of obtaining the dried sludge of approximately uniform water content value and particle size even when the water content value and the viscosity of the treated matter are changed. SOLUTION: The heating quantity supplied to this indirect heating-type stirring drying machine D per unit time is adjusted in accordance with a drying condition of the treated matter in a processing tank 1, whereby a drying speed of the treated matter is adjusted. By controlling the heating quantity conducted to the treated matter in the processing tank 1 in the optimum condition, the particle size of the treated matter is not largely changed during drying, and the dried sludge of the desired water content value and particle size can be obtained.
