PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an N-heterocyclic carbene complex which is an advantageous catalyst suitable for a method to manufacture a polyaryl compound starting from an aryl chloride. SOLUTION: The carbene complex contains at least one complex of a transition metal selected from among nickel, palladium, or platinum, and furthermore, a compound expressed by formula I.
