PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophoretic display device improved in contrast and a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The electrophoretic display device is provided with at least dispersion media 50 and display particle bodies 60 dispersed in the dispersion media 50, and 20% to 90% of the volume of the display particle bodies 60 are hollow segments communicating with the outside. As a result, the dispersion media 50 easily infiltrate the hollow segments when the display particle bodies 60 are dispersed into the dispersion media 50 and therefore the apparent specific gravity of the display particle bodies 60 approximate to that of the dispersion media 50 and the movement of the display particle bodies 60 by gravity is suppressed and the high contrast can be obtained. Further, the high-speed movement of the display particle bodies 60 in the dispersion media 50 is made possible. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
