PURPOSE: A parking mechanism for an automatic transmission is provided to improve the efficiency for transmitting operation force and the operation performance of a gearshift lever by reducing a connection structure, to reduce components and the prime cost, and to improve assembly and lighten the weight of the transmission by simplifying a layout thereof. CONSTITUTION: A parking mechanism for an automatic transmission is composed of a parking gear(60) spline-combined with an output shaft of the transmission with having a parking groove(60'), a manual shaft(61) connected with a gearshift lever and moved, a parking rod(64) connected to a detent lever(62) formed at the manual shaft, and rectilinearly moved, a detent spring(63) moving the detent lever toward an initial position thereof, a locking pin(52) formed at a front end of a locking member(50) and combined to the parking groove of the parking gear, accordingly the locking member cutting off the rotation of the parking gear, and a parking cam(65) formed to the parking rod to work the locking member in the parking rod moving.
