METHOD RELATED TO A-C REPEAT Z-SEQUENCE UPSTREAM FROM ALDOSE REDUCTASE GENE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method related to an A-C repeat Z-sequence upstream from an aldose reductase gene. SOLUTION: This characterization method comprises determining the value of n of the (A-C)nrepeat Z-sequence associated with each allele of the aldose reductase gene of a subject, and characterizing the subject as having the attribute of preferentially benefiting from the administration of an agent for prevention or treatment of a disease or pathological condition that is mediated by having at least one allele of the Z-sequence wherein the value of n is less than 24, with the proviso that the value of n of at least one allele of said subject is determined to be less than 24. The method of characterizing the subject corresponds to the polymorphic A-C repeat sequence located approximately 2.1 kb upstream from the aldose reductase gene.
