<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To elucidate that a membrane bound cyclic alcohol dehydrogenase presenting in cell membranes of acetic acid bacteria, especially those belonging to the genus Gluconobacter, and requiring PQQ as a coenzyme is different from already known quinoprotein ADH and NAD dependent CCAD and suitable for producing oxidation products such as a cyclic alcohol, a secondary alcohol and the like. <P>SOLUTION: The presence of oxidation activity by PQQ as a coenzyme in cell membranes of aerobic bacteria is pointed out for the first time and screening of a MCAD-producing strain is carried out for ≥100 cell strains including aerobic bacteria such as acetic acid bacteria and the like. A bacterium strain presenting in the cell membranes of acetic acid bacteria of the genus Gluconobacter and having high MCAD activity is found.
