Ball valve (10) consisting of two halves (11,23) welded together to provide a body inside which there is a ball (12) with gaskets (13). The body halves include a shoulder (34) for a spring (14) and a gasket of the ball. The area of joint between the body halves features curved cuts with a stem bushing (15) welded to them. Inside the stem bushing there is a stem (30) made of round bar. One end of the stem is welded to the ball and the other end features a handle (29) for opening and closing the ball valve. At least one half of the body is made of pipe one end (40) which has been widened by cold working to provide a component of the valve housing. During welding there is a protective ring (21) at the welding seam (19) joining the halves between the ball and the body. The ring includes flanges (44), which are supported on the inner surface of the ball valve body so that the ring will be at a distance (45) from the welding seam. At the same time, the ring flanges also provide a spacer support for the ball gaskets. <IMAGE>
