PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically insert a wire for grinding outer diameter and optical fiber ferules in which difference between inner diameter and outer diameter is only a few microns onto the wire for grinding outer diameter while selecting the inner diameters of the optical fiber ferules. SOLUTION: The method for inserting comprises a positioning step of positioning the optical fiber ferule 1 on V-blocks 15, 16 an inserting step of inserting the optical fiber ferule 1 while measuring inserting pressure, and a conveying step of conveying the inserted optical fiber felule 1 to a center portion of the wire 2 for grinding outer diameter. The apparatus for inserting comprises positioning means 15, 16 for positioning the optical fiber ferule 1, an inserting means 21 inserting the optical fiber ferule 1 while measuring inserting pressure, and conveying means 19, 20 for conveying the inserted optical fiber felule 1 to a center portion of the wire 2 for grinding outer diameter.
