PURPOSE: An apparatus for driving a front door for an air conditioner and a control method of the same are provided to prevent generation of noise and wrong operation. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus includes a motor(81) installed on a front panel(51) to move back and forth a front door(70) installed between an outlet door(60) and the front panel to move forth when the outlet door is lifted so as to remove faulting between the outlet door and the front panel; a single row gear(82) connected with a shaft of the motor; a single row pinion(83) engaged with the single row gear, and supported on the front panel; a single row rack(85) engaged with the single row pinion so that the front door moves back and force when the motor runs, and protrusively formed on an inside of the front door; and a wrong operation preventing unit sensing when the front door is moved to the front panel by external force while the outlet door is opened, and transmitting control signal to a driving unit(80) to return the front door to the original state so as to prevent interference with the outlet door.
