PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a unit and an apparatus for treating organic waste, which can cope with the throughput of organic waste flexibly and the maintenance of which can easily be carried out quickly. SOLUTION: This organic waste treating apparatus 5 consists of a primary fermentation tank 6 and a secondary fermentation tank constituted of units 1, 2a, 2b, 2c the adjacent ones of which are connected detachably to each other by bolts and nuts being connecting means that are not shown in a figure. When the throughput of the organic waste to be treated is increased, a new unit is added so that the apparatus 5 can cope with the larger throughput easily. When any of the units 1, 2a, 2b, 2c breaks down, only the broken unit can be removed and repaired or exchanged with the new unit so that the maintenance of the apparatus 5 can be carried out easily.
