PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating selenium-containing waste water capable of efficiently treating waste water containing dissolved SeO<SB>3</SB><SP>2-</SP>and SeO<SB>4</SB><SP>2-</SP>with chemicals having relatively good handleability. SOLUTION: The method for treating selenium-containing waste water has: a sulfate ion removing step (first step) in which metal ions which react with SO<SB>4</SB><SP>2-</SP>to form a slightly soluble salt is added to treated waste water containing dissolved SeO<SB>3</SB><SP>2-</SP>and SeO<SB>4</SB><SP>2-</SP>to precipitate SO<SB>4</SB><SP>2-</SP>in the waste water as the slightly soluble salt; and an Se reduction step (fifth step) in which powdery Fe is added to the treated waste water freed of the slightly soluble salt after the sulfate ion removing step to reduce the salts of selenic acid and selenious acid and Se is separated as a slightly soluble material from the waste water.
