PURPOSE: A communication method in a bridge mode of a DSL(Digital Subscriber Line) system is provided to considerably reduce time taken for classification of packets and increase a transfer rate by reducing an overhead of a payload. CONSTITUTION: If there is an input to an Ethernet, a packet converter obtains an MAC address of a destination from an Ethernet packet(S710,S721). If there is corresponding address information in an MAC address storing unit, the MAC address is converted into a compressed MAC(S722). If the number of MAC addresses of an originating place has been previously set, an xDSL terminal checks whether more MAC addresses than the pre-set value are obtained, and if more MAC addresses are obtained, the xDSL terminal discards a corresponding Ethernet packet(S723,S724). The xDSL terminal adds a PAD(Packet Assembly/Disassembly) instructing packet reassembly/segmentation(S725). The packet converter converts the packet into an ATM cell and transmits it to a DSLAM which corresponds to an xDSL system(S726). If there is an input from ATM, the packet converter converts an ATM cell into a proposed packet(S710,S731). The packet converter obtains a compressed MAC from the converted packet(S732). The packet converter converts the obtained compressed MAC into an MAC address(S733). The packet converter transmits the converted Ethernet packet to the xDSL terminal(S734). |
