PURPOSE: An apparatus for processing an internal call in an access gateway and a method therefor are provided to process the internal call of the same access gateway in case that a link with a digital switch fails by composing an emergency call processing unit and a time switch unit. CONSTITUTION: A tone providing unit(230) provides a tone to an origination subscriber and a termination subscriber. A call processing control unit(240) senses the signal change of a subscriber terminal, receives digits inputted from the subscriber terminal, and controls the operation of the tone providing unit(230). If the call processing control unit(240) senses the signal change of the subscriber terminal, an emergency call processing unit(250) confirms information of a subscriber, receives the digits from the call processing control unit(240), and translates the received digits. The emergency call processing unit(250) confirms whether the digits correspond to an internal subscriber, and controls a call setup of the termination subscriber. A time switch unit(270) selects a path of a call by the call setup control of the emergency call processing unit(250).
