A N-substituted aminotetralin or an enantiomer, diastereomer and pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof has the formula (I) wherein: R1 is independently hydrogen, hydroxy, halo, optionally substituted alkoxy, cycloalkyl, cycloalkoxy, nitro, amino, alkylamino, dialkylamino, cycloalkylamino, cyano, carboxy, alkoxycarbonyl, alkylcarbonyloxy, formyl, carbamoyl or optionally substituted phenyl; n is 0 to 2 and m is 0 to 3 B1 is hydrogen or optionally substituted alkyl and B2 is hydrogen or optionally substituted alkyl; Y is methylene; R2 is hydrogen, hydroxy, alkyl, alkenyl, naphthyl, cycloalkyl, halo or optionally substituted phenyl, phenoxy, phenylthio or heteroaryl group; L is alkylene, alkenylene, alkynylene, alkylene cycloalkyIalkylene, alkenylene, alkenylene, alkynylene cycloalkylalkynylene, alkylene arylalkylene or alkenylene arylalkenylene and R3 is optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl, naphthyl or heteroaryl. The compounds are useful for treating disorders and diseases associated with NPY receptor subtype 5 such as disorders or disease states caused by eating disorders, obesity, bulimia nervosa, diabetes, dyspilipidimia, hypertension, memory loss, epileptic seizures, migraine, sleep disturbances, pain, sexual/reproductive disorders, depression, anxiety, cerebral hemorrhage, shock, congestive heart failure, nasal congestion or diarrhea.
