<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a light-dark pattern caused by a pattern portion comprising wiring and circuit elements provided in a picture frame region from being projected near the edge of a display image in an electro-optical device such as a liquid crystal device. <P>SOLUTION: The electro-optical device is provided with, on a TFT (thin film transistor) array substrate (10), a display electrode (9a) disposed in an image display region (10a), and a pattern portion consisting of at least one of wiring and a circuit element connected to the display electrode (9a) directly or through a pixel switching element (30) and provided in the frame region which defines the periphery of the image display region. The electro-optical device is further provided with a lower shielding film (501) for covering at least a portion of such a pattern portion from the TFT array substrate side in a part of the picture frame region. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
