<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic display and front light having a reduced thickness and which are inexpensive and easy to manufacture. <P>SOLUTION: The electronic display is provided with a lightguide and an active display layer component. The lightguide and the active display layer component are arranged to be in contact to diminish optical interference between them. The optical interference is diminished by the construction. Since the lightguide and the substrate layer are in contact, the display is thinner than known displays, so that a communications device can be made smaller, or more space is provided for other components. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
