<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To selectively generate a main beam and a downward beam by using a single headlight. <P>SOLUTION: This lighting system for an automobile is provided with a light source 14 positioned at the first focus of an elliptic type reflector 20, and a convergent lens 30 disposed in front of the light source 14 so that the second focus of the elliptic reflector 20 is contained in an object focal plane of the convergent lens 30, and the first focus and the second focus of the elliptic reflector 20 constitute the optical axis AA of the lighting system. Covering elements 60, 60' and 60" are disposed generally perpendicularly to the optical axis AA at a predetermined distance from the object focal plane of the convergent lens 30. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
