PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device for a gravity-dependent falling shutter, which can urgently stop gravity-dependent fall of a shutter curtain upon detection of an obstacle. SOLUTION: The safety device for the gravity-dependent falling shutter is composed of a brake, an auto-closing device 12, a base board switch, and a switch contact point 19b. The brake carries out braking of the gravity- dependent fall of the shutter curtain. The auto-closing device 12 is energized by a battery power source built in a gang control unit upon detection of a smoke sensor 18, to thereby cancel the brake. The base board switch functions to detect an obstacle. The switch contact point 19b stops energization to the auto-closing device upon detection of the obstacle even in the event of a power failure, and urgently stops the gravity-dependent fall.
