PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact planet gear type multi-stage transmission for a vehicle capable of highly securing transmission stages and a range of transmission gear ratio. SOLUTION: In the planet gear type multi-stage transmission for a vehicle, a part of a sun gear, carrier, and ring gear of a first planetary gear 18, a second planetary gear 20, and a third planetary gear 22 are connected each other, thereby constituting five rotating elements. The rotation of the first rotating element is selectively stopped by a first brake, the rotation of the second rotating element is selectively stopped by a second brake, the rotation of the third rotating element is selectively stopped by a third brake, the fifth rotating element is selectively connected to an input member via a first clutch, the third rotating element is selectively connected to the input member via a second clutch, the first rotating element is selectively connected to the input member via a third clutch, the third rotating element is selectively divided by a fourth clutch, and the fourth rotating element is connected to an output member.
