<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for electronically managing a contract or a license of rights. <P>SOLUTION: The device is for determining an output of a contract or an agreement at an optional point of time. A state machine representing the contract or agreement is prepared, and at least some items or conditions of the contract or agreement are represented as respective state variables of the state machine. Data indicating one or a plurality of events relevant to the contract or agreement is received, it is determined whether or not the event changes a state of the state machine, and the state of the state machine is changed if necessary.
