摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize liquid crystal alignment without sacrificing brightness in a reflection type liquid crystal display device of a vertical alignment mode having a rugged reflection surface. <P>SOLUTION: In the reflection type liquid crystal display device of a vertical alignment mode consisting of a first substrate, a second substrate provided opposite to the first substrate and having a ruggedness formed on the surface thereof, a reflection electrode formed on the second substrate so as to cover the ruggedness, electrically connected to a switching element formed on the second substrate through a contact hole and having a ruggedness corresponding to the ruggedness and a liquid crystal layer provided between the first substrate and the second substrate and having negative dielectric anisotropy, the contact hole is disposed at the center of the reflection electrode and a structural body for controlling alignment of liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer is disposed in a position superposed on the contact hole when the second substrate is viewed from a direction vertical thereto. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
