PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magneto-optical recording and reproducing device for attaining miniaturization for the entire device and mounting a magneto-optical disk-housed cartridge or appreciably separating a magnetic head from the cartridge at reproduction. SOLUTION: An optical pickup unit 13 is placed below a disk holder 9 positionably provided at an inserting and demounting position for the disk 5-housed cartridge 7 and a recording and reproducing position for recording and reproduction. The magnetic head 17 is provided at the tip portion of a suspension 19 placed above the disk holder 9. A driving plate 29 for elevating the magnetic head 17 with respect to the disk holder 9 is vertically turnably provided on the disk holder 9. A top board 23 vertically turnably provided above the disk holder 9 is provided with a recessed part 35 which the tip of the driving plate 29 enters. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
