PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus that can detect a motion vector in a field image with higher accuracy. SOLUTION: An inter-frame motion vector detection section 23 detects an inter-frame motion vector of a field image Ft-2to a field image Ftand outputs the result to a motion vector discrimination section 25 together with an evaluation value. An inter-field motion vector detection section 24 detects an object of an inter-field motion vector of the field image Ft-2to a field image Ft-1and outputs the result to the motion vector discrimination section 25 together with their evaluation values. The motion vector discrimination section 25 discriminates a motion vector used for motion compensation processing for the field image Ft-2in the motion detection section 14 on the basis of the inter- field motion vector of the received field image Ft-2and its evaluation value and the inter-field motion vector object of the field image Ft-2and its evaluation value and outputs the discrimination result to the motion detection section 14.
