PRODUCTION ENHANCEMENT FOR A REACTOR

This invention is directed to a process for increasing production of product (46) that is formed in a reactor (100) having a combustion section in which fuel (32) is burned to produce heat to drive an endothermic reaction occurri ng within a reaction section (106). Production is increased by adding supplemental oxygen (12) to air (30) or other oxygen containing gas used to support combustion in the combustion section, thereby to generate more heat to support an increase in the endothermic reaction. Additionally, supplemental oxygen (12) can be introduced into the reaction section (106) to partially oxidize a reactant to generate heat and to allow an increase in the producti on of the product. Supplemental oxygen (12) may be added directly to the steam- methane mixture (26), or to the combustion air (30).
