A protein having a glutathione-nonspecific prostaglandin E synthase activity; a gene encoding this protein; a method of obtaining a protein having the above enzyme activity at a high concentration; a method of qualitatively analyzing the enzyme using an antibody against the above protein; a method of screening a compound inhibiting or promoting the enzyme activity; and diagnostics or remedies for diseases containing the compounds obtained by the screening method as the active ingredient.
