Polymers and copolymers of vinyl and/or vinylidene halides are stabilized against decolouration by heat by adding to them substances which liberate oxygen on heating and which have no acid reaction nor yield any acid-reacting decomposition products. Specified oxygen - liberating substances are hydroper - oxides such as tetrahydronaphthalene hydroperoxide. In an example, a lead salt of a mixture of wool-fat acids is added with the hydroperoxide stabilizer to a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinylidene chloride. Specification 585,033 is referred to.
