PURPOSE: To improve a merchandise value of a sewn product and to improve sewing work efficiency by automatically controlling a vertical movement amount by a controller in a cloth feeder enabling four motions of feed dogs by synthesis of a horizontal motion and a vertical motion. CONSTITUTION: A sewing machine is provided with a horizontal feed shaft for swinging a feed base supporting the feed dogs in a horizontal direction through a horizontal feed adjuster linked with a main shaft of the sewing machine and a vertical feed shaft for swinging the feed base supporting the feed dogs in a vertical direction through a vertical feed adjuster adjusting a vertical feed amount and a cloth feeding direction linked with the main shaft of the sewing machine. On the basis of cloth information signals of a cloth end and cloth thickness, or the like, or sewing data signals, the sewing machine and a vertical feed stepping motor of the vertical feed adjuster are controlled.
