APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING PACKET IN ETHERNET SYSTEM

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling a packet in an Ethernet system are provided to reduce the waste of band by setting different counter values and transmitting the packets in inter-different transmission times according to a length of the packet and a bandwidth of the Ethernet system. CONSTITUTION: A buffer unit(110) stores a packet. A lookup table(125) stores counter values according to a length of the packet and a bandwidth of an Ethernet system. A counter value calculating unit(121) calculates the length of the packet by a header portion of the packet, and retrieves a counter value corresponding to the length of the packet and the bandwidth of the Ethernet system from the lookup table(125). A counter(122) receives the counter value retrieved in the counter value calculating unit(121), and reduces the received counter value at a predetermined time interval by a certain number. If the counter value received in the counter(122) is reduced as a certain value, a token generating unit(123) generates a token. The packet stored in the buffer unit(110) is transmitted according to the generation of the token.
