A blocking mechanism (20-23) holding the tool platen (4) in the open position is automatically operated during opening of the machine guard door. The blocking mechanism unit is arranged in the drive unit producing opening and closing movements of the platen closure and clamping unit and lies outside the space between the tool platens.
