APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR DETECTING CONTOURS

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for detecting contours are provided to represent a clear and cubic-effective image by detecting the contours by using a color angle difference between adjacent pixels. CONSTITUTION: A color angle operating unit(320) calculates a color angle of two adjacent pixels adjacent to an input pixel. A color angle difference operating unit(330) calculates a difference in color angle between the adjacent pixels. A contour judging unit(340) judges the input pixel as contours if the color angle difference exists within a predetermined extent. A complement converter(350) converts the input pixel judged as the contours into a complement pixel corresponding to the input pixel. A coordinates converter(310) converts the adjacent pixels into color coordinates forms represented as brightness and color difference signals.
