A motor vehicle has an internal combustion engine 10 with a coolant circuit. The engine parameters are set for an increased introduction of heat into the cooling circuit and/or exhaust gas, while satisfying performance set values. The engine may include an EGR including a heat exchanger 28. The cooling circuit may include a coolant pump 24, a radiator 20, a coolant mixing valve 14, a by-pass 18, an oil heater 34, and a heater 30. The heating mode may result from an increased combustion chamber surface temperature achieved by advancing the centre of gravity of the combustion charge with respect to conventional operation. In heating mode, the idling speed may be increased depending on oil and coolant temperatures, and the coolant flow may be regulated as a function of combustion chamber surface temperature or stopped for a predetermined time period after a cold start. During heating mode, the exhaust gas circulation rate may be set to a maximum for the EGR system, and a supercharger may be used, which may have an air-cooler 36 with zero coolant flow. The radiator may include a radiator shutter 38, which is closed during heating mode. The centre of gravity of the combustion charge may be adjusted by injection times and/or fuel quantities of a fuel injection device. The cooling circuit may be controlled by a controller 16 which has inputs and outputs, some of which are temperature sensors 42, 44, 46.
|
