METHOD FOR INHIBITING POLYMER FORMATION IN VINYL MONOMER AZEOTROPIC DEHYDRATION PROCESS

PURPOSE: A method for purifying an aqueous polymerizable organic material by azeotropic distillation is provided, to improve the efficiency by inhibiting the formation of undesired polymers in the vinyl monomer azeotropic dehydration process. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of providing a distillation column; supplying an unpurified aqueous organic material stream containing a polymerizable organic material and water to the distillation column; supplying at least one inhibitor stream containing a polymerization inhibitor and a delivery solvent, respectively, to the distillation column; supplying a water-insoluble distillation solvent to the distillation column for inducing the azeotropic distillation; and distilling the unpurified aqueous organic material stream in the distillation column by azeotropic distillation for forming the purified product stream. At least one of the inhibitor streams comprises a polymerization inhibitor soluble in both water and organic materials and a delivery solvent insoluble in water.
