PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a use of a polyguanidine compound or a physiologically acceptable salt thereof for protecting the hair as keratin fiber during undergoing permanent waving or straightening treatment. SOLUTION: This use of the polyguanidine-derived compound or physiologically acceptable salt thereof for protecting the hair as keratin fiber during undergoing permanent waving or straightening treatment is provided. A cosmetic treatment method for permanent waving or straightening the hair as keratin fiber comprises applying a composition containing the compound to the hair as keratin fiber. The main objective cosmetic composition comprises a combination of the polyguanidine derivative or physiologically acceptable salt thereof with a compound selected from keratin-reducing compound and keratin-setting compound.
