PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome the disadvantages of current conduction, increased wear and increased while keeping the advantage of improving the cutting efficiency obtained by the surface having cracks of a coating layer, and to provide an electrode with a surface structure for heightening the efficiency. SOLUTION: This wire electrode for cutting metal, conductive ceramics or the like by electric discharge erosion machining is provided with a single core 1 or a multi-core formed of metal or metal alloy, and provided with at least one coating layer 2 wasted in erosion machining. The surface of the outer coating layer 2 is structured, and a recessed part 3 formed by structuring is filled with filler 4 made of an easily evaporable metal or metal alloy to obtain the surface with a small roughness.
