PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a defect inspection device for a magnetic tape capable of identifying foreign matter as well as detecting a flaw on the magnetic tape with a nondestructive inspection. SOLUTION: The defect inspection device 1 for the magnetic tape optically inspecting the magnetic tape MT is provided with a floodlighting means (a floodlighting part) 10 floodlighting a light to the magnetic tape MT, light receiving means (line CCD cameras) 13, 14 and 15 receiving the light reflected by the magnetic tape MT, a detecting means (a personal computer) 16 detecting a flaw on the magnetic tape based on a light component reflected by the flaw derived in advance and the light component received by the light receiving means 13, 14 and 15.
