PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device reducing storage capacity when a video signal is continuously recorded or reproduced by performing the reproducing or recording operation alternately from the optical disk. SOLUTION: By the optical disk device, the time required for the rotation change of a spindle motor and the time required for the recording or reproducing operation are estimated to set the objective number of rotations of the motor. Or, by detecting the reproducible maximum number of rotations, the objective number of rotations of the motor is set in accordance with the detected value. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
