PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a scanning optical system having improved fθcharacteristics and an improved plane tilt compensation function even though the system is simply constituted without using a toric surface, and which can be easily constituted of glass lenses, as for the scanning optical system used for a radiological image forming apparatus using, specifically, a laser printer and a stimulable phosphor. SOLUTION: As for the scanning optical system for deflecting/scanning a light beam emitted from a laser light source with a deflector, forming an image on a surface to be scanned, and converging the light beam on the deflection surface linearly in the scanning direction, and positioning the deflected light beam in the plane in the subscanning direction so as to realize an almost geometrically conjugate relation between the deflection surface and the surface to be scanned, the scanning optical system is constituted of a 1st negative lens, a 2nd positive lens, a negative cylindrical lens and a concave cylindrical mirror in this order from the deflector side.
