PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an electric car controlling device that can abolish intervention by a human system by automating judgment and operation that is required when a VVVF inverter is changed over to a CVCF inverter action, that can improve the reliability of the changeover judgment and changeover operation, and that can save labor in the changeover action. SOLUTION: A changeover controlling device 15 outputs a changeover command when the CVCF inverter 12 is stopped to actuate a contact point of a changeover device 11, so that, without the presence of the judgment and operation by an operator, the VVVF inverter 8d is automatically changed over to the CVCF inverter action. Also, the changeover controlling device 15 counts the number of stops of the CVCF inverter 12, and when the number of stops exceeds a predetermined number, it judges that the CVCF inverter has failed and performs the changeover control. This control prevents the changeover action by a temporary stop of the CVCF inverter 12 caused by a disturbance and the like, for which the changeover is not required principally, so that the changeover action is performed properly.
