PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fiber for air laid nonwoven fabrics in which uniform opening property in an air laid nonwoven fabric producing step is compatible with a sufficient development of three-dimensional crimping. SOLUTION: This fiber for the air laid nonwoven fabrics is composed of a single synthetic polymer or a conjugate fiber conjugated in eccentric core- sheath type or parallel type. The fiber has zigzag planer crimp with 0.5-200 decitex denier of single fiber, 3-20 mm fiber length, 0-13/25 mm number of crimps and 0-20% crimp ratio, and the fiber has a latent crimp performance developing three-dimensional crimp with 15-80/25 mm number of crimps and 25-90% crimp ratio by heat treatment at 60-200°C.
