PURPOSE: A variable resonator is provided to effectively reduce suction noises of a wide variety of frequency bands without increasing volume of the resonator, while achieving improved comfort of passengers. CONSTITUTION: A variable resonator(10) comprises a neck varying unit interposed between the resonator and an intake duct(3), which has a plurality of variable necks(25,27,28) with different diameters such that one of the variable necks interconnects the resonator and the intake duct if necessary; a driving motor(30) for driving the neck varying unit in accordance with the control of an ECU(40); a crank position sensor(50) for sensing engine RPM and providing the sensed engine RPM information to the ECU; a map table(60) for storing information on the frequency bands of suction noise and information for selection of variable necks appropriate to the reduction of suction noise of the corresponding frequency band; and the ECU for operating the driving motor such that the resonator and the intake duct are interconnected with each other by a variable neck having the appropriate diameter.
