Impact resistant modified thermoplastic composition, for use in production of shaped articles, films or foams, obtained by forming thermoplastic matrix polymer in presence of block copolymer

Production of an impact resistant modified thermoplastic composition (I) involves: (a) preparing a block copolymer (II) by radical polymerization in presence of stable free radicals (SFR); and (b) radically polymerizing monomer(s) forming a thermoplastic matrix polymer (III) in presence of (II), below the activation temperature of SFR or after deactivation of SFR. Production of an impact resistant modified thermoplastic composition (I) involves: (a) preparing a block copolymer (II) comprising at least one rigid phase block formed from vinyl aromatic, (meth)acrylonitrile and 1-4C alkyl (meth)acrylate monomers and at least one flexible phase block(s) formed from diene monomers and optionally further monomers, by radical polymerization in presence of stable free radicals (SFR); and (b) radically polymerizing at least one monomer forming a thermoplastic matrix polymer (III) in presence of (II), below the activation temperature of SFR or after deactivation of SFR.
