Electrical consumers (2,4) are connected to connectors (10) of a distribution unit (1) via cables (29,30) having connectors at their ends. The connectors connected to the cables comprise jumper links (15) for closing or opening a diagnostic circuit (16). A switch (17) is provided between a power supply unit and the distribution unit, and is controlled by a control unit (18). The diagnostic circuit is provided with a signal generator and evaluation unit. An Independent claim is also included for a method of monitoring the electrical power distribution apparatus.
